When Major James Bullock purchased his home known as Bulloch Hall (circa 1839), I’m sure he would never have guessed that his daughter Martha, known as Mittie, would be the mother of the future President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. Mittie married Theodore Roosevelt Sr. in her home on December 22, 1853 which is why the home is so wonderfully decorated yearly for the play depicting their Christmastime wedding.

At one time, these few acres housing the Archibald Smith Plantation house boasted 300 acres of cotton farming. Today, the 166 year old house accepts visitors to walk along it’s historic paths and cotton garden surrounding the house. The original furnishings, clothing and other household goods such as the piano are somewhat as they were so many years ago. Come visit the cook house and barn still standing today.
