Recently, my son expressed an interest to go to real estate school and join us in the business. I advised him that there are several options to qualify to take the real estate test including: on-line, and classes at several real estate schools. I also mentioned to him that many real estate companies also run a real estate school, and that it was probably a good idea to check them all out and make up his own mind where and when he would like to attend. On one of the schools run by a major national real estate company he was told they no longer run a real estate school. My son asked "Why would you do that?" Their response was "No one wants to be in real estate anymore...you can't make a living!" My first thought was that my son was just joking, but then I realized he was not kidding.

Boy, ain't that the truth!
I've got my fingers crossed...but things have started to improve....let's hope it keeps on going!
Hi Jim! You know me--always thinking positively: perhaps he SHOULD find a school--maybe it IS the best time to get into RE?!! Like father, like son! I'm sure he'll be as successful as you and wish him the best at finding a school and get that license NOW! :-)
Real Estate classes are going away here too. I don't think the company putting on the classes had enough business, sound familiar?
Same here! One of my clients wants to get her license. She had to go on a waiting list for the next class--waiting for enough students to warrant one . . . School's Out For EVER! HAHAHAHA!
The Thom And Ray Team Midtown Atlanta Real Estate We have had a great year and by the grace of God will have closed all of what we did all of last year by next week. It isn't easy but there is work.
I hope one of my sons will get the bug and work with me when I am older. I would hate to build something up and not be able to pass it along.
Debe Maxwell, Realtor® Let's Talk CHARLOTTE! (Helen Adams Realty) Thanks Debe! We actually did very well in the worse markets in the early 90's. I believe if you can make it now..you have it made! I have been working to expand my business, and yes we are still closing really good sales and deals!
Wanda Thomas, Billings Montana Real Estate (Montana Homestead Brokers) It reminds me of those businesses for sale that say "Owner selling successful business due to health reasons!"
Candice A Donofrio, Owner/DB, Next Wave RE Investments LLC LOL! I can believe that.
Gene Riemenschneider Realtor Brentwood Homes for Sale (Area Pro Realty) Well..I did not plan this. My son was recently laid off in this economy, and there are not many positions available anywhere. Real estate started to make a lot of sense. Ellen and I are in a good position to train him on closing techniques, and dialogs.
That is AWESOME news, Jim! I'm really happy for you!
Debe Maxwell, Realtor® Let's Talk CHARLOTTE! (Helen Adams Realty) Debe thanks a million! I never wanted to push my sons to do what I want. It is funny my youngest son may be getting a job in the DC area in commercial real estate.
Very interesting about the schools. Sounds like they were using the school as a recruiting tool and there aren't many new agents these days. Our youngest is also working on his license. Our daughter has worked for us for 7 years. It is a wonderful thing to be able to work in such a marvelous business with family. You can give him the skills and knowledge to have a very successful and fulfilling life that only real estate can offer. Congratulations!
Jim Valentine (RE/MAX Realty Affiliates) I know first hand many of these companies were paying bills witht hteincome from the schools. They were training 50-100 agents a month at $500 a piece. The thing that becomes scary when you think a big established national company makes this statement.
I am looking forward to my son joining us.
My daughter and I were looking for a class for her to take. So far, she has signed up twice and there were not enough students for the company to hold the class. She goes off to college at the end of August, so time is running out to take the class this summer.
I, too, look forward to working with my daughter.
Jen Anderson (Exit 1 Stop Realty) I guess your daughter can always take the class on-line also. I just think the classes are better. There is a great opportunity there for networking and dialog.
Well it is certainly harder but I still think we can make a living. We have adjusted as I told a few weeks back and so far it has worked. It not worth writing home about yet but it is getting there.

Charles Stallions Real Estate 800-309-3414 Pensacola, Fl. Charles, we are having a decent year, and by the Grace of God will have two more good closings Monday. I keep plugging away at the web, and it keeps generating leads. Most agents wait for work to fall into their lap.
