I am designing a few Word Press Blogs that I am very satisfied with except that the display in different browsers could be better. I prefer 2 column WP Blogs.ress blogs I where I can integrate in-line frames of IDX into the posts, but the problem arises in various browsers is that the display should float with the screen display in bot screen resolution and screen width. What's the point of having a 21" or wider screen if the web page (Blog just floats center in the window as opposed to side to side!
Is anyone using a great Word Press Template that has this feature? I also like WP templates that have a feature for a custom header, and I can change the footers. The encrypted footers are such a waste of my time. Any thoughts? Greatly appreciated!

By the looks of your WP blog, you've found the right template already. Correct me if I'm wrong.
New Construction Warranty Management - Kevin Pierce (Cascade Builder Services) No, the wider one has an encrypted footer that is not allowed to be changed.
Hmm. Maybe I'm not understanding what you're looking for. Your blog is "fluid". When I stretch it back and forth across by two screens, everything expands and contracts. Now, I'm not sure about the IDX aspect. Is that a widget? Usually, the code written into those widgets have fixed dimensions.
New Construction Warranty Management - Kevin Pierce (Cascade Builder Services) The footer has fixed links which are not allowed to be changed.
Ah, not sure about those.
New Construction Warranty Management - Kevin Pierce (Cascade Builder Services) Yes...it is free advertising and link building for someone else!
Jim:
My web site with the "php" section has a floating screen algorithium. I found it words differently in different screen resolutions. I think it better to hold one size and center it.
Richard
Richard Stabile Bergen County New Homes Builder Realtor (REMAX real estate associates) I am trying not to crowd the IDX view of some listings within the Blog post. The entire frame still floats center, but allows a larger view area.
Jim,
I've seen two premium themes that allow it to be removed if you purchase the developers version. Thesis and Headway.

Hi Jim - Take a look at AgentPress from MyTechOpinion. If this doesn't quite work, just email Nicole Nicolay and I'm sure she'll be able to help you customize it or point you to other viable themes.
AgentPress is similar to the Revolution theme. (Lisa Heindel uses that on WestBankLiving) And to see Thesis in action, visit Jay Thompson's PhoenixRealEstateGuy.
John Novak - Las Vegas and Henderson NV Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty The Marketplace) I looked at it for a few days... it is too busy for what I want to do. The width is fine, but a two column layout would be much better. The one I like the most so far is:

Jim -
Thesis lets you select between 1, 2, or 3 column layouts, and easily change the widths of each column, as well as the location.
My Thesis application also uses a skin on top of Thesis. The beauty of using Thesis, which is actually a framework and not a theme, is it is completely customizable. Here is another Thesis based site I have which looks nothing like my main blog:
http://agritopiarealestate.com
Also, with almost any theme, you should be able to create a "no sidebars" page, which is great for having an IDX search display as wide as possible.
For example:

Jay Thompson You showed some excellent examples. I'm torn between this one and agent press. I cannot make up my mind.
You could also try looking through this gallery for a wp theme that fits your liking - http://newwpthemes.net/wordpress-themes/popular-premium-real-estate-wordpress-themes/
Susan, thanks. Beleive it or not, I have been looking for months and have checked a lot of these out already!
BTW's I love Studio Press - those guys have been very responsive to me with their forums and on Twitter
Love me some Thesis! I was considering different themes, but Thesis has the some great SEO capabilities. After I saw Jay Thompson's website using it for his real estate site, I decided to take the plunge and purchase it. I know there are wordpress plugins out there for IDX solutions as well.
Eleanor Thorne 919-649-5057 Cary Mortgage Loans (First Financial Services, Inc) I am trying to decide after the convention this week which one I will choose. I just have a few questions on Agent press.
Nogui Aramburo - Bilingual Durham (The Amy Pomerantz Group, Coldwell Banker, HPW) Thesis really looks great too. I do my own plug ins of IDX via embeds or inline frames. They work very well.
Jim, I am watching this post as I have found the same problem on my blog. Too narrow!
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia!
Jim - I had to bookmark this because I have the same questions about this.
I'm a big fan of thesis - and the developers just keep improving it - you can format to be one column, two etc - change your width everthing - it's a way for you to build vs buying a canned site that you need to then go and tweak to make it your own.
Charlottesville Real Estate - Your Trusted Broker Charles McDonald (RE/MAX Assured Properties - No one sells more Real Estate) So far I havce come down to the same two themes. Thesis is one, and the other is an agent press.
South Austin Real Estate Blog (Sky Realty Austin) On Thesis..what about adding a custom header? How easy is it to customize the look of it?
You have to change the CSS file and upload the graphic. They have an excellent forum. Though I am web designer as well, Wordpress is essentially a new thing for me. If you have some technical savvy, I think you could do it. Otherwise, they have an excellent forum for QA and tech support. If you plan to have different blogs in the future, get developers option and you use the theme as many times as you want.
actually you can load your custom header into a "sandbox" and then put it in the right spot with the plugin thesis hook
here is a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPHWICsZvUc
it does leave some white spce that you can edit with your css - but loading the eader is super easy
I'm about to embark on one of those wordpress website missions. I feel like I'm going to get in over my head but I suppose I'll figure it out.
Jim - Have you come to a conclusion about what direction to go? Each time I search for info I keep seeing one thing and that's thesis.
Nogui Aramburo - Bilingual Durham (The Amy Pomerantz Group, Coldwell Banker, HPW) So far I 've not made any big changes to the CSS file, but I've managed to get the blog to do what I want.

South Austin Real Estate Blog (Sky Realty South Austin) Thanks I will check out the video!
David Monsour (Prudential Bob Yost - Sites, Gettysburg, PA) David, I went with
http://www.studiopress.com/demo/agent.html
Here is what it looks like!
http://real-estate-blog.atlantabesthomes.com
Jim - Thats the one that I had settled upon as well but it was very early in my search. Does it feature a customizable header.
Where do you have it hosted? I was considering bluehost because apparently it works quite well with wordpress.
Last but not least what IDX source are you using? There are a few free options I was considering using for a bit until I get a better idea of the type of traffic my site will get.
David Monsour (Prudential Bob Yost - Sites, Gettysburg, PA) I preferrerd the text in the header for SEO, and I host as a sub domain on www.Godaddy.com I am using www.listingware.com for IDX. I think they are the best in the nation!
I need to dig into this a bit deeper. I do like the theme you ended up going with. It's very clean IMO.
David Monsour (Prudential Bob Yost - Sites, Gettysburg, PA) I also like that I have page templates I can use.
Jim, thanks for asking the questions, got some great feedback and suggestions from your many commentators. Best.
