Why worry about your competition? I don't. Real estate in good times is known to have an 80% turnover every two years. Most agents leave the business because they never develop a strategy to create more leads for themselves. Even if they do they do not know how to work real estate leads, and convert them to sales. I have agent all the time that turn down the leads I give them, and I have others agents that make in excess of 250K a year from the same leads. Go figure. The days of corporate relocations and slam dunk buyers are gone.
To all the uninformed in our business...our success is not judge by the number of fans you develop on Facebook, the points you've accumulated on ActiveRain, how many featured posts you have, and who is following your Blog. The simple truth is that success in real estate is measured by the sales you closed and more importantly the money you walk away with. Success is a discipline that separates the herd into three groups:
- Achievers - Profitable agents that succeed in making a good living from real estate.
- Dreamers - they see the potential of real estate and boast of success they do not have.
- Wannabees - They achieve nothing, have all the books, courses, and can not close a deal if their life depended on it.!

Once I decided to stay in real estate as a career, I wasn't worried about anything. Nose to the prospectiing grindstone which has morphed into keeping in contact with past clients has provided me with all of the business needed.
Ha! Great post! I'm laughing because on any given day, I can be #1, 2, or 3! Consistency is the key I believe. Good luck in your continued success!
great post! "take it seriously or go fishing"! Have a great weekend!
Glenn Roberts ~ Seattle Residential (Lake & Company Real Estate) You got it! That is what it is all about!
Jane Taylor (RE/MAX Realty Group) To some extent we all do. The thing is to be forward looking in attitude and then achieve those goals.
Dinah Stallworth (Realty USA, Inc.) Thanks! Have great weekend too!
You sure hit the nail on the head with your three categories - they are funny and blunt. Ouch!!
Vicki Pedersen - Riverside and Corona CA Realtor (Pedersen Real Estate) I really have to call it the way I see it.
A little competition makes us all do our jobs better. Its the American way.
Jim- I think it's important to pay attention to the competition, but I don't obsess about it. Healthy competition is an important way to drive yourself to the next level.
Amen, Brother Jim! Very salient points about keeping our priorities in the correct order... Thanks!
Who has time to worry about points when we are so busy taking care of buyers and sellers. We are having a great year.
Team Knowles, Springfield Missouri Real Estate, Betty & John Knowles, REALTORS® (Keller Williams - www.teamknowles.com) I totally agree.
Jen Olson (First Weber Group Realtors) Years ago, I met an agent that had a full team of support. He had a closer, a marketing person, 2 buyers agents, and a listing coordinator. He had been a big sales executive that had been let go with a huge severance package. I felt inferior to him because he seemed to really have his act together. Two years later he left he real estate business and never did more than just a few sales.
If you tried to explain anything, the person would kind of wave you off that he was a former big executive etc... His experience did not do him any good, and he was not a good listener.
Patrick Harfst (Realty Executives - Gilbert AZ) It really is all about first things first.
Kay Van Kampen, CDPE, Broker, Springfield Missouri Real Estate (RE/MAX Solutions) That is the correct way to go Kay!
Jim
You are right on here. It's best to have the competition worry about YOU>
Very true Jim, all the facebook friends in the world will not guarantee closing checks. Same thing with AR points!
Richard Weeks, REALTOR®, Broker Associate, GRI, ePRO, eAgent (Bill Griffin Real Estate) That's right! Be the competition!
Jennifer K Giraldi, Atlanta REALTOR® Atlanta Real Estate Expert (Solid Source Realty Atlanta) Exactly!
Jim: So true:
I have agents all the time that turn down the leads I give them, and I have others agents that make in excess of 250K a year from the same leads. Go figure!

Hi Jim - I'm a Real Estate Virtual Assistant and have seen comments on national VA forums about how the $3.00 an hour REVAs from India are going to ruin their businesses. As far as I'm concerned, they wring their hands and fret unnecessarily. When we know our business, continually strive to grow and improve and provide services beyond our client's expectations - no worries.
Mirela Monte, Your Myrtle Beach Real Estate Connection Mirela thank you so much!
Pamela Cendejas, Second Self Virtual Assistance (928) 692-3235 (Second Self Virtual Assistance) The only persons I would trust are right here to do the job right are right here in the USA!
Hi Jim - Using USA companies is only going to make us stronger.
Pamela Cendejas, Second Self Virtual Assistance (928) 692-3235 (Second Self Virtual Assistance) I so totally agree.
Jim: Pretty accurate assessment of the state of affairs in the RE industry. Actions trump ambitions and posturing any day. Lead follow up is crucial.
Hi Jim, you mean to tell me that by just getting my license, it doesn't make me a millionaire. Shucks ;O)
Matt Grohe Remax Des Moines (RE/MAX Real Estate Concepts) Thanks, that is really what is all about. Performance not the promises made.
Charles Stallions Real Estate 800-309-3414 Pensacola, Fl. Exactly! :)
