Cuil - A New Search Engine Starts Up Today!

Cuil.comJust when you the field of search engines had narrowed to Google, Yahoo, and MSN...their is a new addition today!  It is called Cuil, and it is a new start-up venture from former engineers of Google that feel they can do a better job!  The Cuil search engine launches today, and features a drill down search in a 2-3 column format!  I read about the story this evening on Google's technology news in an online Wall Street Journal Story!  For all of those that earn a livingas I have in Atlanta real estate via the Internet, this is always interesting news especailliay when the engineering talent is recognized!  The article is very ineteresting, and I wonder what it will be like when Cuil is in a full shakedown run.  The site was up and running sporadically this evening, and it is different for sure.  I am sure more features wil be added as it goes along!  Right now you can enjoy an ad free search!

Jim:  It sounds like we now have another player entering the game.  It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds, and exactly what impact it might eventually have on Google.  Thanks for sharing.

JIM - I like the format of Cuil, but I hope that they are working on their searching algorithm.  I come up at the top of Google for some search terms, and wasn't even found on the first 5 pages of Cuil.  Thanks for the tip though.  It's always good to see what is out there.

Boooo!!!!!

It's black.  It looks like Localism.

How can a search engine be popular when you don't even know how to pronounce the name???

Booooo!!!

It appears to significantly favor sites with the search terms in the URL.

That doesn't take much of a search engine.

Jim, I heard this morning on the news that so many people went to the site it shut down for a moment. So soon as I can I will check out my ranking etc... thanks for the reminder.

I would think that this new search engine would have a long way to go since the other ones are so well known and well used.  Time will tell.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll definitely keep an eye on this one and see what happens with it.  For now, it seems a little rough, but things can change on the web in a blink of an eye!

Thank you for the information.  I did a search myself.  Under Albany mortgages emortgage llc.  It turned up all my information from blogs at activerain.  Strange thing though .  Most of the information had pictures or logos from someone else.  One even had a gentleman picture next to my blog about Not enough hours in a day.  Any ideas from anyone as to why?

Jim I just tried searching Lansing Mi real estate and not one thing came up that was real estate in lansing.  It's new I hop it gets better

Posted by Jeff Thornton ABR CRB CRS CSP e-Pro GRI almost 4 years ago

Jim:

I ran it a bit and it is a little mix up. It is scooping info from mixed crawls and for instants on my search for my site newhomebyrichard. Some lady's picture come up instead of me and if you click her you get my activerain blog page.  Their document integrity is weak.

It also mix another agent in on my site. I think it is doing screen capture not crawling the web and indexing from the site files.

I played with this earlier today and it does still have a lot of glitches.  One thing that I found especially odd was that when I added KY to any city in my area, the searches came back with no matches.  It will be interesting to see how people warm up to Cuil.

Hi Jim!  Thanks for the heads up.  I like the format, however I don't get the link placement I receive on Google and someone else's picture shows up for my links.  Looks like they still have some glitches to work out!

Michelle Miller, ABR®, REALTOR® (RE/MAX Town & Country) I agree, and it is only day 2 for them.  I looked at it again last night, and there were a few changes.
